Mission and Functions

The College Board's primary mission is to expand opportunities for students and help them prepare for college and career success. It achieves this through various programs and services:

  • Standardized Testing: The College Board is best known for administering the SAT, a standardized test widely used for college admissions. It also oversees other assessments like the PSAT/NMSQT and Advanced Placement (AP) exams, which allow high school students to earn college credit.

  • College Readiness Programs: The organization develops curricula and resources aimed at preparing students for college-level work. This includes the AP program and SpringBoard, a pre-AP program designed to enhance students' readiness for advanced coursework.

  • Financial Aid Services: The College Board manages financial aid applications through its CSS Profile service, helping students secure funding for their education.

Governance Structure

The College Board is governed by an elected Board of Trustees and is supported by three national assemblies and six regional assemblies. These bodies consist of representatives from member institutions who contribute to decision-making processes and policy development.

. The organization emphasizes access and equity in education, striving to ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed academically.
